I think it's generally agreed that murder is a worse crime than perjury, right?

Right. Though the circumstances of either might mean we’d place a particular bit of perjury over a particular murder in heinousness—a lie under oath that starts a war, for example.

But I take it that’s not what you’ve got in your purely hypothetical situation.
